The Doctor, The Librarian and the Teacher - three local children's authors will be visiting Warkworth Library this afternoon to talk to children (and anyone else interested) about their latest books, what started them in writing, and to give a few tips.
Former librarian, Lorraine Orman spends as much time as she can at her beach house at Omaha. The Whangateau region and the Amercian Soldiers who came here during WWII were the inspiration for one of her earlier books for children "A Long Way from Home". Her latest book was from the same My Story series "Land of Promise" about a young boy and his family who left England and travelled to help found early Wellington.
Maria Gill is a Matakana resident and sometimes teacher who has written several non-fiction books for children including "Birds Eye View" and "Operation Nest Egg". Her latest book, just released, is "Dogs on the Job".
Stephen Barker (one of our Warkworth GP's) is the newest addition to local author ranks (although he now resides on the Shore). His first book "The Secret of Spirits Bay" is the story of a young English boy Tom and his father, recently arrived in New Zealand and trying to settle in. It has received great reviews.
Come along to Warkworth War Memorial Library this afternoon at 3pm. We have arranged for some of their books to also be on sale so you can get a personal autograph and hints on how you can become a published author too.
