Sir Edmund Hillary - Commemorative service

Commemorative Service – Sir Edmund Hillary
The Council and Destination Orewa Beach have organised a commemorative service for Sir Edmund Hillary to be held on Saturday 19th January at Hillary Square in Orewa at 10am.
Florence Avenue immediately adjacent the square will be closed from 8.30am to 11.30am. A stage and speaker system will be erected as well as a shade area for speakers and invited quests.

Speakers will include Her Worship the Mayor, church leaders, kaumatua, and possibly a representative each from our Nepalese and Tibetan communities. The Council and Destination Orewa will provide and distribute single carnations for laying at the statue. The service will last approximately 45 minutes.

Another reminder is that a condolence book is available for people who would like to contribute messages of condolence with Sir Hillary’s passing. The book is currently in Rodney District Council, Front of House, Centreway Road, Orewa and will be taken to the Orewa Library from Thursday 17 January to Saturday 19 January. Books are also available at the council’s Warkworth and Kumeu Service centres.
