Farewell Sir Edmund

The official funeral ceremony is underway in Auckland today but on Saturday Rodney District residents and visitors said farewell to Sir Edmund Hillary at a commemorative service in Hillary Square, Orewa.

Mayor Penny Webster, church leaders, kaumatua and a representative from our Nepalese and Tibetan communities contributed to the moving ceremony. The surprise fly-over of the Catalina flying boat, identical to the one Sir Ed served on as a navigator, added a special touch.
