Now I can remember fighting with my siblings to be the ones with the rods when we went fishing on the Kaipara Harbour, while Mum with the hand line was always the person on the boat that pulled in the big one. It's actually been ages since I have baited a hook but hopefully someone will invite me out for a day sometime this summer.
In the meantime, this Sunday is the annual Warkworth Lions "Take a Kid Fishing" event so dust off the fishing rods and ply the old fisherman for tips and tricks so that you can catch the big one.
This fishing competition is open to children 12 years and under. Fishing is off wharves in the local area. Prize giving and raffles at Warkworth Wharf at 3.30pm.
All bait and ice privided. Those twelve years and under must be accompanied by an adult. Rodney Libraries have plenty of fishing books if you want to do some homework before you hit the wharf. In childrens and adult non-fiction just check under 799.1 on the shelves for titles such as Hook Line & Sinker (Daryl Crimp), Best Boat Fishing Spots (Geoff Thomas) or The Mad Keen Fisherman's Road Trip (John Eichelsheim).
Good fishing everyone.
