Daffodils is, of course, a reference to Friday 28 August which is Daffodil Day to support the Cancer Foundation. This day has been an institution in New Zealand for many years now. We celebrate spring, new life, quality of life and do all we can in recognition of those who are fighting the battle, who have lost the battle and those of us who know people in both camps together with the medical professionals who are at the front lines. pcakes is a little more obscure, but is something that may soon take on the same following. Cupcake Day is a new fundraising initiative by the SPCA and is on Monday 31st August. People are encouraged to bake cupcakes and sell them to raise funds, with prizes for taking part. You don't even have to be a good cook as one of the prizes is for the most unusual place to eat a cupcake. To register and get more ideas go the Cupcake Day for SPCA website.
