Sad News in the Book world

You may be forgiven for thinking that we are just about the Olympics at the moment, but we are keeping an eye on other news.

So it's with regret that we report a couple of authors who have passed away recently.

A Russian news agency as reported that Alexander Solzhenitsyn, who won the Nobel prize for literature has died at the age of 89. Solzhenitsyn was exiled from the Soviet Union and graphically portrayed life in Soviet labour camps in his work. Unconfirmed information said he died after a stroke.

Closer to home Harper Collins Publishers (NZ) advised yesterday with great sadness that Dianne Haworth died peacefully on Monday, 11 August, after a brief illness. Dianne was a noted biographer and also an animal rights campaigner who was a founding editor of the Animals Voice magazine.
