The booklet is out, the website is up and the tickets are for sale. The 40th Auckland International Film Festival is about to hit town.
"Founded in 1968 as a component of the Auckland Festival, the Auckland International Film Festival in time became a fund-raising event subsidising live arts. Rescued from this role by the intervention of the Federation of Film Societies in 1984, the Festival in 2005 achieved an audience in excess of 100,000. The year 2000 marked the Festival’s return to the fabulously refurbished Civic Theatre, the South Pacific’s most insanely beautiful picture palace."
Pick up a booklet from the library and have a closer look. Films are divided into twelve categories - Big Nights; Worlds of Difference; For all Ages; Masters; New Directions; Framing Reality; Music; Retrospective; Portrait of the Artist; Animation; Incredibly Strange Film Festival; Shorts and Panels.
Early bird ticketing applies to tickets purchased before 10 July - that's Thursday.
