There's the 30 odd pile of books by my bed for a start... plus some fan fiction writing, but even so there will be times when I feel like a break from all the reading and writing and just want to blob out in front of the TV or in my case, the computer with its DVD drive.
So while my partner is yelling and cheering at the TV screen I will be snug and warm on the other couch with my laptop on my... well lap and headphones plugged in watching something else (though of course, I will glance occasionally at the other, bigger screen).
Finding something to watch isn't going to be a problem for me either, as my DVD list is just as long as my book list. So if you're like me looking for something to while away the games or a cold winter evening there might be something here that will catch your interest.
The Killing.
In case you haven't heard, Scandinavian crime is big. Like really big. And not just in books either.
Their TV shows are taking off also and The Killing is the latest to come out on DVD.
Sadly the holds list is still quite long so I may have to wait awhile, never the less it's one I'm looking forward to watching.
Luther
According to the blurb Luther "is a self-destructive near-genius, who might just be as dangerous as the depraved criminals he hunts".
Sounds like my kind of cop and my kind of cop show. The Brits always do these type of shows so well, so I'll know that there will be plenty of violence, a few good twists or two, some great acting and some great story telling. Just the thing to watch on a wet and cold winter's night.
Zen
Yes it's another crime show and yes I have a thing for them but with shows like these can you really blame me.
Based on a series of books by Michael Dibdin this show not only has the rather wonderful Rufus Sewell (sigh...) but also features the beautiful city of Rome which is where it is set.
A gorgeous man and gorgeous scenery... what more could you ask for.
Misfits
Hard to believe as this will be, but Misfits is one sci-fi show that I haven't yet caught up with. How that came about I have absolutely no idea especially since it won the Bafta a couple of years ago.
Now though I am hoping to rectify that and the one good thing is that there are now three seasons of this show on DVD.
It is, of course British, so once again I'm expecting plenty of grit and a few surprises as well. I can't wait to get my teeth into this one.
Wonders of the universe
Who are we? Why are we here? Where do we come from?
Physicist Brian Cox believes the answers to these questions and many more lie in the universe that surrounds us and in this show he tells the story of the universe starting right from the very beginning.
Having watched his previous show Wonders of the Solar System I know that I am in for a treat as he is one of those rare scientist who make science not only understandable but exciting and interesting too.
Museum of Life
I've been to the Natural History Museum in London and it was amazing, so my interest was piqued when I came across this DVD which looks at not only the history of the museum but also tells the story of how many of the exhibits that are housed there came to be.
From dinosaurs to dodos, I'm sure that this will be a fascinating look behind the scenes of one of the oldest museums around today.
Billy Connolly's Route 66
I'm a Billy Connolly fan so anything that he is in I'm probably going to watch it. That's this also happens to be a travel DVD makes it even better.
I've driven on Route 66 and can't say that I was all that impressed but then again it was a very small part of the road so I'm sure it is alot more interesting that it seemed.
At least with Billy as a companion I know that it will be funny and quirky and the music that is in the soundtrack sounds pretty damn good also.

You're in for a treat - Misfits is terrific! And a tidbit for people who are fans of both that show and Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments: Robert Sheehan (Nathan) has been cast as Simon in the Mortal Instruments film.
