And I'd Like To Thank The Academy...

Happy 2013

I'm taking the easy way out with this, my very first blog post of the new year, and borrowing from my fellow blogger Laura.

Best lists are always so subjective.  They are just one person's opinion of what they enjoyed during the year.  They are also highly addictive and enjoyable and just another way that my endlessly long reading, watching and listening lists get even further out of hand.

Oh well you can never have too much to read....

So with that in mind here are my awards for 2012.

Enjoy!

Best I Can't Believe I Caved Into Peer Pressure and read that...

Fifty shades of Grey / E. L. James.

Yep I'm a weak willed person.  After months of resisting the urge to read the bestselling book of the year I finally caved in.

All in the name of seeing what the fuss was all about (of course).

In the end it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, then again it wasn't that good either.

Best Teen Author Now Writing For The Big Boys...

The Hollow City / Dan Wells.

Paranoid schizophrenic Michael Shipman has lived with his illness for a long time but what can he do when he begins to suspect that not all of his hallucinations are imaginary and that the monsters he sees might just be real after all...

I'm a fan of Dan Wells.  His young adult book I Am Not A Serial Killer and it's sequels just blew me away and his debut book aimed solely at adults is just as good.

Best And You Thought Your Relationship Was Hard...

Gone Girl / Gillian Flynn.

On the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick's wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true but what really did happen to Nick's beautiful wife?

I don't want to spoil the ending of this book - you just have to read it to find out and I highly recommend that you do because this book is good - like really good.  All I will say is that it will certainly make you glad that your marriage isn't anything like Nick and Amy's.

Best I'm Hanging Out For The Sequel So Hurry Up and Write It...

It's a tie really between a new author and a veteran author.

Blood and Feathers / Lou Morgan

Alice isn't having the best of days but it's about to get worse when the war between heaven and hell lands on her doorstep.

A Dance With Dragons / George R. R. Martin.

I blame Game of Thrones the TV series entirely for getting me hooked on the books (that damn show!) now I am hanging out for the rest in the series, if only he would hurry up and finish them. (Note:  All fans should check this out  Write Like The Wind by Paul and Storm)

Best This Is So Addictive That I Own Every Season Just So I Can Watch It Again And Again...

Okay no surprise here, Supernatural of course but I do have a few other favs that deserve being mentioned just because they are so good.

Justified.

Vampire Diaries

Game of Thrones

White Collar

Best I Would So Sell My Soul To If He Was Real...

I have a thing for bad boys.  Well bad men really.  Clever and ruthless, they are masters of the snarky one-liners and something about them is oh so sexy. Villains are always so much more appealing than the heroes.

Crowley (played by the wonderful Mark Sheppard) is the ultimate villain, that he's also on Supernatural is just an added bonus.

Best I Can So Relate To This...

Awkward

I love this show despite myself.

It's funny in a cringe-worthy way and a wonderful view of teenage life.  There's the weird teachers and the even weirder parents.  The popular girl who makes your life hell and the hottie who barely acknowledges your existence but doesn't mind making out in the back room closet.  Yep life as a teenager is hard and even more so when everyone mistakenly thinks you tried to commit suicide.  What's a girl to do...

Best I Shouldn't Like This Song But I Can't Get It Out Of My Head...

Another tie

Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson.

All Of Me by Tanlines

Best New Discoveries

The Glorious Dead by The Heavy

The Lumineers by The Lumineers

Best I Play Them All The Time They're So Good...

Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars.

I randomly picked up Blood and Feathers on the Just Returned shelf. I only made it halfway before it was wayyyyyy overdue and I had to return it. Definitely have to get this out again.
